Scottish Model Airshow

The Scottish Model Airshow will be held for the fifth successive year over the two days of the weekend of the 24th and 25th June 2017 at the local Airfield at Strathaven. The event is organised by the Large Model Association and the Scottish Aeromodellers Association and will showcase an amazing variety of large scale and aerobatic models flown by the best model pilots from all over the UK.
Spectators will enjoy watching aircraft types spanning the whole history of aviation from Sopwith biplanes and Richofen Triplanes of WW1, with classics of the 1930’s like the Tiger Moth and wartime Spitfires, Hurricanes and Messerschmitt 109’s, and into the jet era with twin-jet Canberra bomber, Lightning fighter through to modern fast jets and Red Bull type specialist aerobatic models. The four-engined 20ft. wingspan “Memphis Belle” will again be demonstrated flying in spectacular close formation with it’s sister Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, together with the ½ scale Magister wartime trainer and other numerous aeroplane types modelled to museum quality and skilfully flown.. The sky will be full of excellent models of all types throughout both days from 10.00 am continually through till 5.00pm, weather permitting.
Specialist traders and catering facilities will be available on site and camping and caravan areas will be provided, together with free parking for spectators adjacent to the airfield. Entry to the Event is £8.00 for adults and accompanied children are free and all surplus proceeds are donated to the Kilbryde Hospice and the St.Andrew’s Hospice to support their wonderful work in Lanarkshire.
