Over £41,000!!!!!

When Gordon and I first discussed the idea of walking to Celtic Park for each home league game, it was back in July 2020. Lockdown one had just been lifted and we had a shared hope of returning to normal. 11 months later and we are all still awaiting that normal. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too much longer.

However, following that conversation, the challenge had been set and there was no going back regardless of normal or ‘new normal’. We planned the route, we discussed co-walkers, we feared the weather and Gordon even allowed green Hospice t-shirts to be printed as I argued the blue wouldn’t fit in with the Celtic Park crowds. As it turned out even the green t-shirts weren’t allowed in to the stadium. Given how the season panned out I should be grateful for this.

Before my first walk I was confidently supported by my mum who said “I hope you stick to it.” Words that I have brought up to her after each completed walk but only now do I understand why she said it. This wasn’t a book I could put down and return to or something I could put off until I fancied doing it. It was a pledge to the Hospice to do what I could for them. Thankfully I finished the season and only now can I admit my mum was correct to say what she did.

Thankfully it wasn’t just my mum ‘supporting’ me, I had family, friends, colleagues and even strangers encourage me and every single person who did contributed to the success of the walks. Without all of you I’d have given up. I can’t thank you all enough. We battled through the blisters, the ice, the snow, the rain (although only 40 minutes worth all season) and COVID together and we done it for the Hospice. Thank you!

From the multi-walkers like Gordon McHugh (12), Brian Haughey Snr (10), John Gunn (3) and all the others who joined me once or twice to the two ladies I met outside Celtic Park and kindly handed me a donation, I couldn’t have done it without you and it wouldn’t have been the huge success it has been if you weren’t involved. I even managed to convince my mum to join me twice! Although I think this was her way of checking I wasn’t jumping on a bus.

Thank you to each and everyone of who took part or contributed. We done it together.

The page will remain open for a few more weeks for any last minute donations. It can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/brian-haughey

Stay safe and hopefully I see you all soon.

Brian
