Hotfooting it for Kilbryde Hospice

On Sunday the 1st of March a group of Kilbryde Hospice supporters took part in a Firewalk to raise funds for the hospice and we have recently received a short video from the night.

First of all, I hear you ask, what exactly is a Firewalk? Well we basically asked supporters to walk 8-10 steps, perhaps the shortest walking challenge they have been asked to participate in; however they would be walking over hot coals burning at a mean temperature of 1236°F!

Luckily we have some brave supporters who decided that it was a challenge worth taking part in. On the day participants arrived at the Burnside Hotel in Rutherglen ready to go in to their training session with Karen Stirling from Blaze Firewalking. The training involved is top secret but let’s just say it definitely motivated everyone and Karen was absolutely brilliant. During the training we briefly nipped outside to practice our stride and to watch Adam and Andy from Blaze ceremoniously lighting the walkway. Afterwards we were whisked back inside to have some final moments of preparation.

At this point family, friends and even colleagues of those involved arrived to cheer them on (and possibly make sure that they didn’t back out of it!) and were treated to a fire performance from Andy.

Finally it was time for the Kilbryde Firewalkers to face the carpet of hot embers, as you can see from the video not only did everyone complete the firewalk but also thoroughly enjoyed it.

Kilbryde Hospice would like to thank the team at Blaze Firewalking, Beverley Gracie from South Lanarkshire Council who stood out in the cold and captured the event on film for us and the volunteers who helped us on the night.

Last but not least we would like to say a massive thank you to those who signed up and raised a fantastic amount for Kilbryde Hospice. We simply couldn’t continue to offer our support and care to those affected by a life-limiting illness without our wonderful supporters so thank you!
