A group of ladies from South Lanarkshire have returned home after completing a gruelling 5 day trek of the Grand Canyon for Kilbryde Hospice. Nicola Gunn, Fundraising Manager at the hospice and Administrator Emma Craig encouraged their friends, Kirsten Sommerville and Gemma McLeish to join them on the overseas challenge to help raise vital funds for the hospice. The girls raised over £14,000 for the hospice.
Joining them on the trip was Blantyre resident and Kilbryde volunteer Bonnie Tait, who has raised over £2,500 so far for the hospice.
The girls spent months training for the Canyon trek by climbing famous Munro’s in Scotland and walking over 11 miles on week nights and 18 miles on weekends to ensure they would be fighting fit to take on the challenge which seen them climb and hike in heat over 40c.
