Nancy joins #TeamKilbryde

Kilbryde Hospice supporter, Nancy Coyle, spoke to our fundraising team about why she has joined #TeamKilbryde at this year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk on Sunday 26th April.

On Monday 12th August, my mother in law Helene Coyle, was moved from Monklands Hospital to Kilbryde Hospice for end of life care. Helene was diagnosed with breast cancer which had developed in to metastatic bone cancer, and sadly could not be treated.

My mother in law stayed at Kilbryde Hospice for 13 weeks where she had the best of care, developed wonderful relationships with staff members and was able to enjoy, to the best of her ability, the remaining weeks of her life. During Helene’s stay the staff went above and beyond to ensure her time and the family’s time was as enjoyable as possible by arranging a meal for her and her husband, Ian, from her favourite restaurant Plato, based in Bothwell.

The Hospice requires vast amounts of money to run their facilities which is all generated through fundraising events and that is why I wanted to help to give a little back as a way of thanks for the care that my mother in law received whilst in Kilbryde Hospice.

I was delighted to join #TeamKilbryde at this year’s Kiltwalk and I have started training for ‘The Big Stroll’ a 15 mile walk!

My family still regularly drop in to Kilbryde to say hi to the staff, including my sister in law Samantha who finds great comfort and support from her visits. This support would not be possible without the money that is raised through events such as the Kiltwalk, which then allow Kilbryde to offer a wide range of care and support to family members as well as patients, and support to families after the loss of their loved ones.

Pictured is Helene at Nancy and her son, Simon’s wedding. The family stated that Helene never particularly enjoyed having her photo taken which makes this picture extra special.
