Donna Mortimer Ballantyne In Patient Unit
For all referrals to Kilbryde Hospice Inpatient Unit please call Specialist Palliative Care team Hub on 01698 755141 from Monday to Friday 0900-1700. Please have all referral details available as the team will triage your call and mutually decide which of the hospice services is best suited to the patient in your care.
The Donna Mortimer Ballantyne Inpatient Unit opened Summer 2018. Our unit is purpose built to promote comfort, safety, dignity, privacy and provide individual person centred care. This care is carried out by our amazing team of staff and volunteers.
An admission to the Inpatient Unit for specialist palliative care is sometimes required for people being cared for at home or in hospital. Admissions can be for control of symptoms, or a period or rehabilitation or for end of life care.
The entire palliative care team aims to assess the person’s symptoms and helps them self- manage their care whilst making sure patients and families are fully supported throughout their time with us. Our main aim is to allow people to return home or to a long term place of care.
Patients come into the In Patient Unit for a variety of reasons. Our specialist team is here to help to control difficult symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, or end of life care.
Our specialist team consists of consultants, nurses, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, pharmacists and volunteers.
The length of stay varies from patient to patient however Kilbryde Hospice is not a long stay unit. If you come to see us as an inpatient, we will review your care regularly, if your current care setting becomes unsuitable we will work with you and your family to find an alternative place of care for you.
Please note Kilbryde Hospice and University of Hairmyres Hospital Grounds are a no smoking area. Any inpatients wishing to smoke cigarettes or e-cigarettes must be escorted by a family member to smoke off site. All in-patients who require it, will be offered nicotine replacement therapy on admission. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this.
