An incredible £1900 was recently donated to Kilbryde Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support, in memory of Lynda Ferguson, local East Kilbride resident.
Lynda passed away in the summer, after an inspirational 15 year battle with cancer. It was Lynda’s wish that out of this difficult time, she might be able to make a difference to the charities which supported her during her illness, so that others in a similar situation might be able to get the same support. Lynda’s friends, family, and colleagues at Capita, honoured this wish, by donating nearly £2000 to both charities.
Lynda received support from Macmillan Nursing staff and, Kilbryde Hospice’s Care at Home and Day Services team. Andrew, Lynda’s husband, shared some kind words about the charities:
“Lynda and I received the most amazing support while we were going through a really tough time and without the support of the local NHS community nursing team, the MacMillan nursing support and the support of the Kilbryde Hospice, it would have been so much more difficult.
We were so grateful for all the incredible help we received that Lynda asked me to donate any monies collected at the funeral service between MacMillan Cancer Support and Kilbryde Hospice. This was so that they could continue to provide much needed help to others, who might find themselves in the same situation that we did. Lynda was always looking to help others wherever she could.”
When asked about what it was like to work with Lynda, Kilbryde Hospice’s clinical team shared the following:
“We admired Lynda’s courage and determination to live as fully as she possibly could throughout her illness and it was an honour to support her towards the end of her life. Even in the final stages of her life, her concern for the wellbeing of those closest to her never wavered. It was such a pleasure to know her.”
Kilbryde Hospice provides care and support to people in Lanarkshire with life limiting illnesses, and extends this support to their carers and loved ones too. For further information, please contact Kilbryde Hospice on 01355 202020 or info@kilbrydehospice.org.uk
