*Walks 17 and 18*
Saturday 20th of March signalled the 17th walk of the season and the last before the league split. Hospice Ambassador Martin McHugh had selected this game a few months back for his walk although we kept it between us as Martin isn’t a regular walker. Despite, often been seen out walking in the weeks leading up to his walk, he still had his doubters.
Martin had convinced his friend of 20+ years Jim Robertson to join him, and I am delighted to say both had no issues making it to Celtic Park.
We were also joined by John Gunn, for his second walk of the season, this time sporting his tangerine Hospice Tshirt and Brian Haughey Snr for his 7th walk of the season. As you will see from the pictures we adhered to social distancing guidelines throughout the 9mile trip.
Although the trip was slightly longer than usual, taking 2 hours and 59 minutes, it didn’t feel like it. Martin kept our spirits up with his stories and his review of John’s recently released book, Tales from the Touchline.
Martin and Jim managed to raise over £2,500 as part of their walk which I am truly grateful for. Martin has been an amazing support from the start of the season and I am indebted to his support and fundraising.
Gordon McHugh and Charlie Cronin also completed this walk however due to social distancing rules, completed this on their own. A picture of Charlie is also attached.
Walk 18 was completed on Saturday the 10th of April with Brian Haughey Snr completing his 8th walk and Gordon completing his 10th of the season. Despite being joined so often by the both of them I have managed not to upset them…… yet!
Our next focus is on The Kiltwalk on Saturday the 24th of April when Gordon, Shiela Thomson and I will complete 26.2 miles in aid of the Hospice. I’m sure we will be joined by a few familiar faces along the way. If you can please donate at https://virtual.thekiltwalk.co.uk/fundraising/ScotlandsVirtualKiltwalk2021-BrianHaughey as The Hunter Foundation will up your donation by an amazing 50%.
Celtic’s final home fixture is scheduled for Wednesday the 12th of May and as so many people want to join me for the final leg, I will be doing this walk twice – once on Friday the 14th May and again of Saturday the 15th of May.
Thank you again to everyone who has donated to my challenge this season, my current total is over £26,000 and it honestly means so much to me and with the end nearly in sight I will need to get my thinking hat on for my next challenge.
Thank you and Stay safe Brian
