Carers Programme

20 August, 2022

Over the last 8 weeks Kilbryde Hospice have hosted their regular quarterly Carer programme. This the first face to face session since COVID-19 and it was fantastic to welcome carers back into the building. Carers were offered an opportunity to join on-line too if it was easier than leaving their relative alone. The programme runs for 8 weeks with a variety of sessions. Following the last programme one of the attendees told us that “her most pressing concerns had been addressed and the course has taken some of the fear of the unknown away” . Ultimately, this is the main aim of the programme.

Most importantly on the programme, our carers are reminded that they need to take care of themselves if they are to continue to be able to care for their relative. One carer told us that she was “more aware of forward planning and where to go for specific advice as a result of the course”.

One of the highlights or key learning points of the programme for her was “ the fact that the Hospice was not a scary place only for the dying, but a vibrant caring place for the living”

If you are caring for a relative or friend with a life-limiting illness and you think you might benefit from carer support, or to attend the next Carer Programme please do not hesitate to contact us. Call Kilbryde Hospice 01355 202020 Option 3 and ask to speak to Clinical Admin. On the other hand, you can join us at our Carer Cuppa where you can meet other carers in a similar situation to yourself. Our Cuppa is held on the first Tuesday of each month, in the Kilbryde Hospice Kafe from 2pm – 3pm.
