Kilbryde Hospice Celebrates Commitment To Real Living Wage

9 December, 2019

Kilbryde Hospice has recently been accredited as a Living Wage Employer. Our Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at Kilbryde Hospice receive a minimum hourly ware of £9.30. This rate is significantly higher than the government minimum for over 25s, which currently stands at £8.21 per hour.

The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 200,000 people and put over £1Billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.

Gordon McHugh, Kilbryde Hospice Chief Executive, said: “At Kilbryde we recognise the contribution of all our staff team, and we appreciate that those looking after the some of the most vulnerable people should be awarded a dignified wage for doing so. This accreditation is another positive step in us demonstrating to our team and the community we serve that their work is absolutely recognised, and that they play a vital role in the continued, collective success of Kilbryde Hospice.”

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Kilbryde Hospice has joined the movement of nearly 6,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.

“They join thousands of small businesses, as well as household names such as LUSH, Heathrow Airport, Barclays, West Ham Football Club and many more. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like Kilbryde Hospice, believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.
