Kilbryde Hospice were delighted to recently be presented with a cheque from Robert and Niall Bogan for an amazing
Robert and Niall took on the iconic coast to coast walking route over a 5 day period between 5th & 9th of July, in memory of their sorely missed wife and mother, Sheena Bogan.
Find out how their walk went below:
Day 1
Fort William – Gairlochy – Spean Bridge (15 Miles)
“Terrain flat. Weather downcast with intermittent rain, occasionally heavy. Despite the low lying cloud, some stunning views alongside the banks of Loch Linnhie, Loch Eil & the Caledonian Canal.
Day 2
Spean Bridge – Gairlochy – Laggan Lochs – Invergarry (23 Miles)
“Terrain comprises forest trails, lochside paths & roads with occasional inclines. Against all odds & the forecast, the weather is gloriously Mediterranean like until 2pm after which it becomes overcast but dry. The photos do not do justice to the amazing scenery around the banks & crystal clear waters of Loch Lochy. Our limbs & feet are now paying the prize for a longer than anticipated day!
Day 3
Invergarry – Aberchalder – Fort Augustus – Invermoriston (20 Miles)
“Terrain – very steep forest train climb as we leave Invergarry overlooking Loch Oich. Canal towpath to Fort Augustus then forestry road to capture a 330M steep climb overlooking the tree line & Loch Ness. The weather is generally overcast with sunny intervals. More amazing scenery to behold on Day 3 of our walk. We’re both now feeling the physical effects of our exertions. Our mantra is to keep moving on & let the compede plasters work their magic!”
Day 4
Invermoriston – Dumnadrochit (16.5 Miles)
“Terrain – more steep climbs on forest tracks, narrow constructed hillside paths & forestry roads, highest point 470M at Creag Dhearg, way above the Monster Loch. The weather is again mid/overcast, perfect walking conditions. Despite last night’s Wembley result, our mood has been buoyed by our progress to date and the knowledge that the final hurdle awaits us tomorrow.”
Day 5
Drumnadrochit – Inverness (22 Miles)
“Terrain – forest & moorland tracks, island & roadside paths. The weather is dreich and overcast as we leave the Drum. After the inevitable ascent, we literally have our heads in the (low lying) clouds, restricting further scenic photo opportunities of Loch Ness. The Abriachan Café at the mid-point proves to be an experience rather than an oasis. It’s then mission accomplished for Team Bogan a few hours later when we reached the end of the GGW at Inverness Castle.”
A massive thank you to Robert & Niall for their support to Kilbryde Hospice!
