Year of the Nurse

13 March, 2020

As part of our Year of the Nurse 2020 Campaign we spoke with Clinical Support Worker at Kilbryde Hospice, Jane Currie.

Pictured are two members of our Clinical Team with Finn, who you may remember as being the star of our social media last year! Finn’s Mum, Nicola, was a patient within our In-Patient Unit last year.

We spoke with Jane who said; “Finn loved to take us by the hand or give big cuddles, usually then taking us to a plate of biscuits or sweets. As soon as he came in to the ward he brought a ray of sunshine and everyone had a smile on their face.”

“As with all patients we have, it is not just the patient that requires our assistance. Family and friends are considered just as important to us. We always strive to go that extra mile with them all, to let them know they too have our full support – which is often enough for them. Other times it’s a shoulder to cry on, to give them time away, even 10 minutes to actually say how they are feeling without upsetting the patient.”

“We are so privileged to witness such joy and innocence in what can otherwise be upsetting situations.”

Post Comments:

“I remember little Finn as my Partner Jim was also an inpatient too and I stayed over with him for his time. I will never forget or be able to thank all the team for their care and support for Jim and me and our family. You still continue to support me thank you so much.”
