Clinical Education

As a specialist palliative care unit, Kilbryde Hospice offers an education service to health and social care professionals and students, in all healthcare settings.

Education

Kilbryde Hospice supports our clinical colleagues with education and training, clinical audit and quality improvement projects. We also collaborate with the community of South Lanarkshire and our local health and social care partners, and other third sector organisations promoting good practice in caring for people at the end of their life. Our hospice aims to help fellow professionals to develop their skills within palliative and end of life care. We also work with volunteers and carers to enhance their understanding of issues faced by people when they are ill or dying. Kilbryde Hospice works with University of West of Scotland, Glasgow Caledonian University, University of Glasgow and the Open University supporting students within all our clinical services.

Clinical Practice Placements

Kilbryde Hospice works with University of West of Scotland, Glasgow Caledonian University, University of Glasgow and the Open University supporting students within all our clinical services. All academic placements are arranged via universities. "I have just completed 3 weeks at Kilbryde hospice as part of my training as a student paramedic at University of West of Scotland and it has been a very different experience to what I had expected. There are many negative preconceptions of what type of place a hospice is, and Kilbryde goes against all of them. I spent time in all areas of the building, from the inpatient unit working along medical staff, to day services outpatient unit where I worked alongside therapists and other members of staff. From the moment I stepped in I was assured it was a place of positivity, rehabilitation and happiness and they weren’t wrong”.

For hospice employees and volunteers

Our in-house education and training programme is central to the development of our staff and volunteers and is the key to our success. By developing our workforce, the hospice is able to give excellent compassionate care, to our patients, their carers and families. Our commitment to lifelong learning extends to non-clinical staff and volunteers who receive specific training as well as personal development in areas such as communication skills.

"I have learned so much from my placement here and will take these lessons with me throughout my career as a paramedic. For any patient or family member of someone looking at Kilbryde hospice, you can be assured from someone who previously had many of the preconceptions you may have right now, that you or your loved one will be in the best, most compassionate group of hands and Kilbride hospice is a place of encouragement, kindness and above all else, positivity and happiness.”
