Kilbryde Hospice is currently establishing an innovative nurse-led approach to specialist palliative care, strengthening the leadership role of expert hospice nurses within our multidisciplinary team.

This development places nursing expertise at the centre of clinical decision-making, service development, and the delivery of compassionate, person-centred care.

Job Purpose

As part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), the post holder will provide of direct patient care across The Kilbryde Hospice. As a member of multi-disciplinary team (MDT) the post-holder will carry out duties as required to contribute to effective communication and provision of care in the hospice. The post holder will at all times work with care, compassion, respect, dignity, and commitment.

• Registered Nurse (adult)
• Relevant Nursing degree or diploma.
• Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
• Practice Supervisor qualification.
• Relevant qualification in speciality.
• Teaching qualification.
Experience
• Post registration experience in an acute healthcare environment.
• Ability to practice as a safe competent practitioner, applying evidence-based practice.
• Experience of working with minimal/without supervision.
• Post registration experience in palliative care.
• Experience working within a specialty.
• Experience as a Practice Supervisor.
• Experience of managing resources.
Knowledge Skills and Understanding
• Knowledge of current professional issues.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good knowledge of professional accountability and responsibility and the limitations of the role.
• Ability to manage a team and caseload. Good organisation skills: able to plan own work but also work effectively within a team.
• Ability to prioritise and make sound decisions, sometimes under pressure, with minimal/without supervision.
• Ability to use a range of IT applications, e.g., Word, Outlook and web-based applications, and electronic patient records.
• Ability to manually handle patients and operate lifting aids.
• Understanding of use of audit in a clinical setting.
• Understanding of use of outcome measures (RESOLVE).
• Understanding of clinical governance and its requirements.
